Tom Richardson

Lecturer, Sports Management; President, Convergence Sports & Media; SVP, Strategy and Business Development, Mercury Intermedia; Host, The CUSP Show

Tom Richardson is SVP of Strategy and Business Development for Mercury Intermedia, a leading cross-platform application development company with clients such as Comcast, Red Bull Media, and TED. He is also President of Convergence Sports & Media, a digital media and marketing consultancy he launched after a corporate career in media and sports. Working with a variety of companies, from well-established properties to startup ventures, Convergence focuses on helping grow and manage businesses in a highly disrupted and increasingly complex media/marketing ecosystem. The firm's consulting and advisement work includes strategic planning, business and partnership development, marketing, sales, and resourcing. Clients have included NBC Sports, IMG, Bloomberg, WWE, PBR, the U.S. Tennis Association, and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Previously, Richardson was the GM of Sports & News at AOL, and before that, he was the President of Digital at the NHL and the head of Publishing at the NFL.

Following his passion for education and mentorship, Richardson also has been an adjunct professor at New York University and Iona College. At Columbia University, co-founder and co-host of the CUSP show, a podcast focused on the sports business.

In addition to being a frequent speaker at industry events, Richardson is also one of the organizers of NYVC Sports, which integrates New York City’s entrepreneurial, enterprise, and investment communities by hosting events for the sports industry—all at the intersection of the digital and sports marketplaces. In addition to earning his B.A., he did some graduate work in publishing at NYU.
